Snow in Saskatoon today.

I had an idea about writing my own bible. (It's not as heretical as it sounds.) IO want to compile and write/draw my own record of God alive in me. Both the creating and the remembering are important, and I want to see what this has to say about the real me, wherever he is.

"For Your Pruning" - Kahlil Gilbran

When Love speaks to you, believe in him, though his voice may shatter your dreams,as the north wind lays waste the garden. For even as love crowns you, so shall he crucify you.Even as he is for your growth, so is he for your pruning.Even as he ascends to your height andcaresses the tender branches that quiver in the sun,so shall he descend to your rootsand shake them in their clinging to the earth.

THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS LIKE...Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

(from Allenon)

Thoughts on the Day

I had coffee with my friend Nancy this morning and that is always good. She sees me in a different way and always challenges and encourages me. One of the things we talked aboutwas the role of scripture in my life these days. I hear a lot of people taking about their feelings of love and wonderment when reading the bible, and to be honest, I just don't have that. I wish I did at times, but it's not there. that may be because I have been around the bible my whole life, and have seen it as more of a textbook that a source of personal inspiration.
One of the challenges Nancy threw at me was to build my own canon of what brings God's truths to me. I like the idea of that, so I hope to have a list at the side of my blog that holds my canon of God's truth to me in fim, music, literature, and art. Feel free to comment as the list forms.

I let go of my name domain last week, which is why the blog is changed. Thanks Coop.

I read this the other day and was blown away.

What we call “church” is too often a gathering of strangers who see the church as yet another “helping institution” to gratify further their individual desires. One of the reasons some church members are so mean-spirited with their pastor, particularly when the pastor urges them to look at God, is that they feel deceived by such pastoral invitations to look beyond themselves. They have come to church for “strokes,” to have their personal needs met. What we call church is often a conspiracy of cordiality. Pastors learn to pacify rather than preach to their Ananiases and Sapphiras. We say we do it out of “love.” Usually, we do it as a means of keeping everyone as distant from everyone else as possible. You don’t get into my life and I will not get into yours.
